Cabernet Sauvignon is the Offspring of two similar sounding grapes following a chance crossing in the seventeenth century. Growers suspected this due to the closeness of their names and the shared characteristics with both Franc and Blanc. It’s also pretty fly (for a red wine).
All Cabernet from the Dorrien and Bethany sectors, the 2019 Offspring Cabernet Sauvignon is a vast improvement over the debut-vintage 2017. It shows varietally appropriate herbal shadings but avoids outright greenness, delivering ripe cassis and blackberry fruit. Medium to full-bodied, supple and already approachable, it's a delicious, affordable introduction to Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon, capably balancing generosity and structure.
