Our Sparkling Shiraz has a new name
Stelle Nere
Sparkling Shiraz

Our Sparkling Shiraz, Stella Nere, is a non-vintage wine with its reserve wines beginning with the 1998 vintage. After secretly hiding a couple of barrels of each vintage until finally convincing the Langmeil Winery board to release a Sparkling Shiraz in 2003, the wine has gone from strength to strength. The complex and aged base wines are refreshed annually with younger Shiraz before bottle fermentation using the traditional method. The wine is left on its lees for two years to obtain a delicious creamy note and a lovely fine bead; then, the bottles are lovingly hand riddled before disgorging and liqueuring with our mature vintage fortified wine. Stelle Nere is a uniquely Australian wine style for any occasion.

Hello
'Nothing in the world is worth having or worth doing unless it means effort… I have never in my life envied a human being who led an easy life. I have envied a great many who led difficult lives.'
― Theodore Roosevelt
Vintage 2022 has all but come to an end. Over the last ten or so weeks, I have again had the privilege of showing many visitors the wine-making team's efforts that ultimately result in the wines you enjoy. Having followed the hands-on process right from the vineyard; pruning, picking, destemming, open fermentation, pump-overs, dig-outs, basket pressing and barrel ageing, the overwhelming response is a new appreciation for the magnitude of our annual endeavours.
The Germanic heritage of the Barossa leaves us well prepared to make such efforts; even our play was traditionally more challenge than recreation. This week's wine is named in honour of what is effectively ten pin bowling, with only nine pins. Positioned at the end of a 64-foot wooden spoon drain, one sends a ball with no holes in a slight zigzagging path to knock down the eight rear pins while leaving the front nine-pin standing. The Kegelbahn Shiraz is the very embodiment of reward for effort.
A gold medal recipient in France's prestigious Vinalies Internationales, silver at the Global Syrah Masters, and ranked #26 of 125 2018 Barossa Shiraz by The Real Review, the 2018 Kegelbahn Shiraz represents outstanding value at $89.95 for six bottles delivered to your door. Order Here
