Hello
'It's spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you've got it, you want—oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your heart ache, you want it so!' ― Mark Twain
Well, Mr Twain may not have known quite what he wanted, but the judges of 2021 Vinalies® Internationales certainly did! For the uninitiated, the Vinalies® Internationales is one of France's and the globe's premier wine competitions. Created in 1994, it has become a significant event in terms of its longevity and renown.
A unique character is its diverse, 130 strong tasting panel composed of some 40 nationalities and all specialists in sensory analysis. Winemakers from France and worldwide submit more than 3,000 samples each year for an exclusively blind tasting, so there can be no question of brand or appellation bias. This approach can lead to some surprising results, not the least of which was the recent performance of a humble little Barossa Chardonnay in the form of Langmeil Winery's very own 2020 Spring Fever. Better known for our red wines, we were surprised and delighted to see this wine take the trifecta of a gold medal, the White Wine trophy and the Wine of Show outscoring the likes of Alsace Grand Cru, Chablis Premier Cru, Champagne Premier and Grand Cru, and Saint-Emilion Grand Cru wines. In typically understated fashion, winemaker Paul Lindner proffered, 'In 2020, the fruit from the Schild family looked even more delicious than usual, so I thought we should do a little extra in the winery to recognise that. We fermented a portion of the wine in second fill French oak hogsheads and aged it on its lees to build complexity, texture and weight. While I was happy with the result, I never dreamed it would receive such recognition.'
With such outstanding recognition, much of this wine is destined for international markets. However, in celebration of the first day of spring, we thought it was appropriate to make the 2020 Spring Fever Chardonnay available to you via this online-only offer. At $89.95 per six-pack delivered to your door, your only heartache would be missing out!
Kind regards as always,
