Dear //FirstName//
“A bottle of red, a bottle of white
it all depends on your appetite
I’ll meet you any time you want
In our Italian Restaurant”
As regular readers of my prose would be painfully aware, I often like to start with a relevant quote. So what’s the relevance of these lyrics from Billy Joel's song “Scenes from an Italian Restaurant”? It’s a cryptic introduction to a new wine. Now that our Fellowship of Followers Wine Club have received their pre-release, we are very excited to announce that Langmeil now has a Sangiovese in its new varietal line-up.
Best known for its role as the base for the Chianti blends, Sangiovese is Italy’s most planted grape and the principal variety for fine red wine in Tuscany. It found its way to Australia with Italian emigrants in the 1940’s and 1950’s, but has only recently been used in any quantity in recent years. How fitting that this wine should now be made by Langmeil’s Lindner family who likewise share a maternal Italian lineage dating back to the 1930’s!
The versatile Sangiovese has arrived with perfect timing. Medium to light weight on the palate, its savoury spice and red cherries make it perfect for the many moods and subsequent foods of spring. Its already looking to become a new staff favourite!
Kind regards as always
