After a slow start, Vintage 2017 is now upon us in earnest and it certainly looks like one to celebrate. Of course the celebration of vintage is something the Barossa has down to a fine art with this year representing 70 years since the inaugural Barossa Vintage Festival in 1947.
April 19th through to the 23rd will see the valley a buzz as visitors and locals alike come together across nearly 100 different events to celebrate the wines, food, stories and culture of the region. In addition to our Poets and Platters evening (already sold out) we will be hosting a select number of guests in a Valley Floor retrospective 'wine in focus' as part of the Barossa Trust Mark Trail. While digging through back vintages of the Valley Floor I naturally had to sample some of its bigger brother, the Orphan Bank, for comparative purposes! You may recall from recent correspondence that the 2013 and 2014 vintages of this wine won Gold in the Berlin Wine Trophy and many jumped at the chance to purchase a 'three of each' six pack. In sampling a few older vintages it quickly became apparent that the Orphan Bank is also aging beautifully. As such we have decided to offer Cellar Door visitors the opportunity to taste and purchase selected back vintages during the Barossa Vintage Festival week.
